Cowley Road Carnival

The Cowley Road Carnival is (or was) an annual event designed to celebrate the diversity of the East Oxford community with music, food and fun. However, with recession looming and other funding difficulties, it was feared that the Carnival would need to be cancelled. Yet, at the eleventh hour, new backers were found and the Carnival was back on – restyled ‘Carnival in the Park’. So on Sunday 5 July more than 30,000 people descended upon South Park to take in the sights, smells and tastes of East Oxford.

For the last couple of years the Oxford Christadelphian Church has got involved in the Carnival. Last year our hall hosted hordes of schoolchildren as they prepared for the parade down Cowley Road. This year, we brought in a choir to perform on one of the stages, sharing our passion for the things of God through song.

This event is just another example of the Oxford Christadelphians' part in the East Oxford community. We are always ready to help our neighbours, whether it be hosting the Neighbourhood Watch meetings or providing Christmas parcels for the young people at the Bridge Project. It is in ways such as this we try to show the love of Jesus to those around us.
